Our company is made up of Metro de Madrid, Globalvia and Alsa. As stakeholders they contribute the best of three of the sector’s leading companies.

We work to offer the best service to passengers using this line to get around.

Committed to the Community of Madrid, we manage the Metro Ligero ML1 line together with the General Infrastructure Management Body and the Transport Consortium.

Here at Madrid´s light rail, we work to meet society’s needs in terms of transport. This means contributing to making our range of services accessible to people, structuring mobility and favouring the city’s economic development. And our social responsibility goes even further as we set ourselves objectives that are aligned with our values.

We believe in education, innovation, culture, sport, etc. As part of this philosophy we get involved in areas like schooling, the environment, social integration, research and scientific publications.

Education

During the school year we organise visits to the ML1 line to promote knowledge of public transport and respect for the road safety code and coexistence, amongst other aspects.

We collaborate with universities bringing the world of business to the sector’s future professionals.

The Environment

We have adopted measures to increase our use of the power produced during the braking of the trains. Additionally, we have implemented a plan to improve the energy efficiency of our facilities.

Our operations are certified by regulation UNE-EN ISO 14001.

RSC

Social integration

We support associations that work with children at risk of social exclusion, offering them activities that allow them to learn about public transport, inviting them to participate in various fun and educational activities.

We organise visits to the line for those from special needs education centres.

Scientific publications

We participate in Science Week promoted by the Community of Madrid, offering those who are interested the opportunity to discover how light rail trains work over the week.

Support for foundations

We promote awareness in the fight against cancer and other illnesses by supporting the campaigns of various foundations and organisations.

Collaboration in the publication “Yo sé cómo vencer al cáncer” (I know how to beat cancer) by the CRIS Cancer Foundation, which finances various research projects for awareness and the development of new treatments.

Participation in communication actions, promoted by Madrid’s Regional Transport Consortium, for the fight against breast cancer and support for people affected by brain damage, amongst others.

 

Our history

ml1-quienes-somos

Line ML1 of the light rail network was built in 2007 as part of the plans to expand the metro network in the 2003-2007 periods. Construction work began in December 2004 whilst new urban developments for the Northern part of the city of Madrid, included in the General Urban Development Plan of 1997, were being built. It’s just another line within Metro de Madrid’s integrated network, designed to provide the urban centres of Hortaleza, Sanchinarro and Las Tablas with a modern, accessible transport system.

The population living in these areas, mainly made up of young families, can find a solution to their current and future mobility needs on the light rail which will make it a means of transport that is more and more in demand.

The light rail matches the demographic and urban characteristics of the area, combining the advantages of underground routes to negotiate infrastructures like the A1 and the M11 with the qualities of a tram system as a proximity transport system perfectly integrated in the urban environment.

Trains and Stops

The ML1 line was built to be accessible for everyone. The trains, stations and Line 1 stops are completely accessible. We have lifts and moving stairs at all our underground stations to directly access the platforms and access ramps at the stops. The ticket machines have touchscreens that are easy to use and have instructions in Braille. We have taken care to ensure there are no architectonic barriers to access the trains.

Light rail is for everyone and contributes to improving mobility and accessibility to the whole Metro network of the Community of Madrid.
